The other nerd? There you go, putting me and "him" in the same category. I can think of no greater insult. I may be a nerd, but he is without argument the Uber-Nerd.

You're absolutely right. I stand corrected and would very much like to extend to you the opportunity to henceforth set me straight: do you prefer dork, dweeb, geek, or twit?

I've always been partial to stooge. Mainly because when you're bugging its one of those words that can set you on an other-worldly extrapolation trying to figure where the hell it came from. This kind of adventure always began with "Hey, that's a funny word..."

That in and of itself is a true passageway to true dorkdom.

Stooge it is then.

I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this, but I have been up since yesterday afternoon researching the origin of the word. I'm really quite tired, too. But, well, it's pretty much a mystery. Yep. Apparently there's not a linguist in the world who knows where it came from. It's an etymological enigma.

As for me, I'm partial to ass monkey, so feel free.

I stumbled upon this, but only by accident. With so many familiar words that sound funny, one might think stooge would be somewhere on the list, but it's not. And even though I am a goy, I thought it was a real kick in the tuchus:

I did some quick Googling on "Ass Monkey" and found some rather disturbing information. Apparently it goes back to the HMS Bounty's infamous mutiny and the crew's eventual settling on Pitcairn Island. Well, it appears that at the time there was a large population of monkeys on the island (now extinct for reasons that will become clear). These monkeys, never having seen humans, were obviously unafraid of the new inhabitants and regarded them as new member of their monkey family. As most know, male monkeys are infamously "randy" most of time and in a constant state of arousal. After several unsuccessful attempts during the day to "initiate" the new island dwellers, the monkeys quickly learned that the best time to make advances was while the large "monkeys" were asleep. Needless to say, on more than one morning the quiet of the island dawn was shattered by scream of "Oh, shit! Those damn Ass-Monkeys got me again!" While we have no actual written proof of this, the resulting dissapearance of the native monkey population can be directly tied to the newcomers need to defend themselves against the unwanted night visits and resulting morning soreness.

While it is not my usual practice to employ Internetisms, I have to say that had me lol'ing all the way to the medicine cabinet to get the Preparation H.

Even Suess recognized nerd power. And Gerald "Jerry" McGrew sent for us.

Ever since the great fire of '03, we've stopped using the Hasbro oven to cook our meth. While this initially caused some
short term "medical" problems with all those Kens and Barbies and their homies, the matter was resolved quickly, lawsuit settled, lab moved, Kens and Barbies once again happy campers.

But thanks for thinking of me.

Oral tradition at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute holds that the word was coined there, spelled as "knurd" ("drunk" spelled backwards), to describe those who studied rather than partied.

Doesn't seem to fit the stereotypical view of Deadheads, does it?

DAMNNNNNNN! Indeed SDH!!!
